Importance of Rehab Equipment Calibration and Repair

Around the world, more and more research showing the need for rehab equipment calibration is being published. ERS Medical is well-known for its surgical equipment repair and calibration instruments, which are used by biomedical engineers and workers to perform quality assurance testing and calibration on medical devices. In this post, we'll talk about why it's critical to keep the rehab equipment used for quality assurance testing and calibration on medical devices.

Rehab Equipment Calibration

Rehab equipment is used to treat a wide range of injuries, diseases, and chronic conditions that people throughout the world experience. This is a superb use of technology to address the patient's need for healing. However, all of the instruments' sensors and electronics drift over time; they are not a "set it and forget it" configuration. Periodic accuracy assessments, including measurement uncertainties, must be performed, documented, and trended to ensure that an instrument is performing within stated specifications and to verify long-term stability.

If the test instruments used in the calibration of medical devices are not kept up to date, or if the calibrations of those test instruments are out of tolerance, the medical devices calibrated with those test instruments will be incorrect, potentially causing injury or death to the patients who will be connected to those medical devices.

In the United States and Western Europe, on-site rehab equipment calibration and repair services are becoming more common. The benefits of having a service provider on-site are obvious. Shipping calibration equipment decreases the possibility of damage and practically eliminates downtime while the instruments are out of operation. However, the benefits may not outweigh the drawbacks. If the on-site service provider is not the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or an authorized service provider, the device may not receive proper service (ASP).

Another issue is rehab equipment repair. Nobody knows the equipment better than those who created it! Professionals trained in troubleshooting and device repair work for the OEM and ASP. There's also the issue of locating factory-approved spare parts. "Compatible" parts may appear to restore an instrument's functionality, although they may not always work as expected. This level of product knowledge is simply not available when using a third-party vendor.

If rehab equipment is returned to the OEM or its ASP because a third-party supplier is unable to provide thorough and proper servicing, the cost of maintaining the equipment pool will rise. This increase in maintenance and calibration expenses must also be considered when choosing a service provider. We strongly encourage you to include all of your instruments, regardless of brand, in these hidden servicing costs.
